My Approaches

My work is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and trauma-informed care that helps children and adults understand their struggles, regulate their nervous systems, and rebuild healthy, secure relationships. I  integrate a range of approaches to tailor to each client’s unique needs. My sessions often incorporate creativity, or experiential strategies—inviting individuals to explore, express, and connect in ways that feel natural and meaningful.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling which centres people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values commitments, and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

SFBT is a goal-oriented, collaborative approach that focuses on identifying and building on a person's existing strengths rather than deficits to create positive change.  It focuses on present and future goals rather than past problems.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT helps you become aware of thinking patterns that may be creating issues in your life.Looking at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours helps you view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.

Emotionally Focused Family Therapy

EFFT is geared to strengthening the trust, safety, and bonding in families. Rather than blaming each other, it helps family members to view their problems instead as attachment struggles. Examining emotions together is critical as they communicate our needs, motives, and priorities.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach aimed at enhancing a person's motivation and commitment to change. It is client-centered, focusing on empathy and collaboration to help clients resolve ambivalence about behaviors they wish to alter.

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help you heal from trauma, anxiety, and distressing life experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to go into great detail about the event. Press here for a great explanation of EMDR.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

NAT includes acceptance, respect, empathy, empowerment, and advocacy when using evidence-based and strength-based therapies with the neurodivergent community. It recognizes the uniqueness of each individual and celebrates it!
